Preparing for your first male Brazilian wax requires three steps: shower within two hours of the appointment, skip lotion or oil on the area, and wear loose-fitting clothing. Hair should be about ¼ inch long—roughly three weeks of growth after shaving. Book the appointment when you have 24 hours of downtime afterward. Most men in West Hollywood schedule for a Friday or Saturday morning to allow recovery time before returning to normal activity.

What to do the day before

Exfoliate the area gently in the shower using a washcloth or body scrub. This removes dead skin and lifts ingrown hairs so the wax adheres to the hair shaft instead of the skin. Do not exfoliate the morning of the appointment. Your skin needs time to settle.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine the night before. Both tighten the skin and make hair removal more uncomfortable. Drink water instead. Hydrated skin releases hair more easily.

Trim if your hair is longer than ½ inch. Use scissors or clippers with a guard. Do not shave. Wax needs something to grip. If you are unsure whether to trim, leave it—your practitioner will assess length during the appointment.

What to do the morning of

Shower within two hours of your appointment. Use a mild soap and warm water. Clean the entire area thoroughly. Pat dry with a clean towel.

Do not apply lotion, oil, powder, or deodorant to the pubic region or buttocks. These products create a barrier between the wax and the hair. The skin should be clean and dry when you arrive.

Wear loose cotton underwear and soft pants or shorts. Tight clothing irritates freshly waxed skin. Most clients at our West Hollywood location arrive in athletic shorts or sweatpants. Avoid jeans or anything with a stiff waistband.

What to expect during the appointment

You will undress from the waist down in a private room. The practitioner will ask you to lie on a padded table and will position you as needed throughout the service. Hard wax is applied in small sections and removed by hand—no strips. The male Brazilian wax covers the pubic mound, shaft, scrotum, and the area between the buttocks. The appointment takes 30 to 45 minutes.

"Most first-timers are surprised by how quickly it goes. The anticipation is worse than the actual service. I work in sections and check in with you between each one. You stay in control of the pace." — Rene', practitioner

Breathing helps. Inhale before the wax is applied, exhale as it is removed. The discomfort peaks for two to three seconds per section, then fades. The scrotum and the area between the buttocks are more sensitive than the pubic mound. Expect sharper sensation in those zones.

What to avoid after the appointment

Do not exercise, swim, or use a sauna for 24 hours. Sweat and chlorine irritate open follicles. Skip hot showers and baths for the same reason. Use lukewarm water when you rinse.

Do not apply scented products, retinoids, or exfoliants for 48 hours. The skin is raw immediately after waxing. Fragrance and active ingredients cause stinging or breakouts. Stick to unscented aloe or a post-wax lotion designed for sensitive skin.

Wear loose clothing for the rest of the day. Cotton underwear and soft pants reduce friction. Avoid tight jeans, synthetic fabrics, or anything that rubs against the waxed area.

Do not shave between appointments. Shaving resets the growth cycle and makes the next wax more painful. Let the hair grow back for three to four weeks before rebooking. Clients who wax consistently report less discomfort and slower regrowth over time. You can read more in our aftercare guide.

How to choose your appointment time

Book when you have 24 hours of low activity afterward. Most men in Beverly Hills or Mid-City schedule for a Friday or Saturday morning so they can rest at home through the evening. Avoid booking the day before a long flight, a beach trip, or a physically demanding event.

If this is your first wax, avoid scheduling during a high-stress week. Stress tightens muscles and makes the service less comfortable. Choose a day when you feel calm and have time to prepare properly.

Our West Hollywood suite on Larrabee Street operates by appointment only. No shared waiting areas. No overlapping bookings. You arrive, the room is ready, and you leave without encountering other clients. Discretion is built into the process. Men from Sunset Strip, Fairfax, and Hollywood book here for that reason.

If you are unsure whether you are ready, read through our frequently asked questions or visit the about page to understand how the service works. The more you know going in, the easier the appointment feels.
